The research behind Newspaper took me inside digital and physical institutions— libraries, archives, newsrooms, and museums—in the United States and South Africa. Important sources of original newspapers, cited throughout the book, are located in the Africana Library in Kimberley, the National Library of South Africa in Cape Town, the Library of Congress in Washington DC, and the online collections of Digital Innovation South Africa and the Wisconsin Historical Society, among others.

In the print and digital editions of Newspaper, you'll only find a select (and very short) list of sources used in its writing. A comprehensive list, including interviews, scholarly articles, original newspapers, podcasts, speeches, and books, can be found here.
